Air Mangkok House is an interpretation of its tropical setting in Bangka, built around the site’s climate rather than against it.

Natural ventilation and daylight were treated as primary design elements from the start. Large ceiling openings keep air moving continuously through the spaces while letting in soft, indirect light, shaping a living environment suited to the tropics. Locally sourced materials define the character of the house and root it firmly to its place.

Perforated roster walls and timber screens layer shade and shadow across the interior, enriching the spatial experience while moderating heat gain. The result is a contemporary home that holds environmental responsiveness, local craftsmanship, and a sense of openness in the same breath, a refined reading of tropical architecture.
