Plant Culture set out to harmonize culture and sustainability, built around two core ideas of plant, for its plant-based culinary concept, and culture, expressed through the architecture and interior itself.

The layout follows the seating typology suggested by the perforated holes of a spiral-bound notebook, creating a dynamic, engaging composition rather than a standard grid. Multiple access points, a main entrance, side entrance, and rear entrance, keep circulation and loading smooth even as the space fills up.

The furniture draws from traditional Javanese Joglo architecture. Bun&Lau developed a custom collection of tables and chairs using traditional timber joinery, no nails, naming the series OGLO after the structural elements found in Joglo construction which is purus, lanangan, and penglaret. Getting the joinery right took real research and development, including full-scale mock-ups to test structural strength before the final pieces were made.

That same traditional influence carries through to the facade, where a horizontal screening system inspired by krepeyak regulates sunlight and reduces heat gain. Inside, a neutral palette of black, white, and gray lets the food’s color do the talking, while natural materials, stone, and greenery keep the space feeling organic and welcoming.
